Town: Evans Not Actively Looking to Sell
Friday, 26th Feb 2021 19:43

Town have issued a statement in response to the news of takeover interest in the club.

As reported yesterday, and in greater detail earlier this afternoon, a largely US-based group is looking to complete a takeover of the Blues.

However, in a statement the club insist that owner Marcus Evans is not touting the club around although would, as he has said in the past, listen to interest.

A spokesman said: “Marcus Evans reiterates that he is not actively looking to sell the club and remains fully focused on taking Ipswich Town back to the Championship.

“However, as he has also stated in the past, he would speak to interested parties if they can prove themselves to be credible buyers that would provide sustainable, long-term investment."

And an afterthought. My wife said why don't you all stop saying "Just eff off" as you have been doing to everyone who's let the Town down over the last 13 years and keep calm and maybe you can create a kind of positive force field that will bring better times.
Actually I'm lying she said "Why don't they just F off!!!"

This statement has been issued because of the reports about the takeover by the American consortium but doesn't say that those reports are incorrect. I conclude that the reports are correct but Evans is trying to get a better deal and wants to keep the fans' expectations down in case it falls through, or if it does go ahead but the change in ownership doesn't result in (at least) a return to the Championship.

My god, we have some stupid fans. What else are the club going to say? They are not in a position to confirm or deny anything until Evan's says it's ok to do so. Thus, theyve made a statement, using the words evans said a while back, that hes not actively looking to sell. We really do have fans who seem to have to put a negative slant on everything. And to find any reason to slag him off. Pathetic. Why not just wait and see? My guess is, this is gonna happen. Its just the club keeping their cards close to their chest.

Hope you're right. But are you sure the deal is all but done and bo8ng through? Do YOU trust Evans, or Lambert, or anything coming out of the club anymore??

@arnie, you were fully behind them only a few weeks ago! Blaming the ‘injury list'! Unreal !

ArnieM added 22:15 - Feb 26
That was weeks ago. And I thought I'd said LAMBERT would use the injury list as an excuse ( but in attempting to be fair I may have said he would have a point to some degree). I stopped supporting Lambert and Evans quite a while ago.

I'm just sick of everything about this bloody club now. Just what an utter joke we have become snd rvrr ref n in x supposed take over the Evans and Lambert circus persists . Little wonder fans don't know if they're coming of going .

I'm so Glad your happy with things though 👍

It's totally happening; but Marcus just needs to get it out there that he didn't 'actively' approach the US Consortium looking to sell. It allows him to stick to his previous statements of being committed to the club etc; it also gives him some cover for whatever may happen into the future, under the new regime. They came to him & he sold in good faith etc.

Arnie M. I dont think it matters whether you believe what's coming out of the club or not. The talk of the takeover isnt coming from the club, but from elsewhere. And the club arent going to either confirm or deny these reports until such a time that everything is 100% confirmed. It wouldn't make sense if they did. While the terms of the takeover may be already agreed, theres likely other things to be confirmed before the club would feel confident of announcing anything officially.

The figures may be slightly out but this is the man that bought a £40 million debt from Barclays for approx £8 million and thought all he had to do was give Keane around £10 million to get us into the riches of the Premier league. Only flaw in this plan is he knew nothing about running a football club and Keane was a poor manager. He should have stuck with Jim.

What percentage of fans are, like myself, extremely disappointed to read that headline? Says all you need to know about how much we want him gone. Just sell up Evans!

So basically he hasn't admitted that he has given up but not denying that an approach has been made is how I read that

Just go. And learn to speak for yourself.

blues1 added 22:54 - Feb 26
Brave blue. How can he speak for himself, when he hasnt even been asked about it? Just some1 at the club has been approached. And have replied and in the only way they can.

blues1 added 22:58 - Feb 26
Skip73. What are you on about. Just shows tho, I like many, just read the headline, then comment on it without knowing the whole story. Its nit Evan's that was approached to answer about this takeover. Just some1 at the club. Who has answered in the only way they can at this moment in time.

Blues1, I just commented that the headline made me feel really disappointed. I read the whole article. Why does me saying I want Evans gone still warrant someone moaning. I thought we were all wanting the same thing.

Can someone from this club just come out and make a straightforward statement for a change.

The League One club has been owned by British multi-millionaire Marcus Evans since December 2007 but the 57-year-old has been in talks with various parties for at least six months, having poured more than £100 million of his wealth into the club over the last 13 years. Evans is understood to be writing off that debt, giving Johnson's group a clean slate.

Arnie, ‘I'm so glad your happy with things though'......if muppets like yourself have finally realised how detrimental Evans has been towards our club, then finally if Evans goes, yeah I'll be happy with things.....shame it's taken so many, so long to smell the coffee!

That's the kind of bland statement, that matches his running of the club, and the football we've had to endure.
