Burley Confident

Town Manager George Burley gave an impromptu press conference yesterday to try to reassure fans that Ipswich are in a false league position and an upturn is just around the corner.

"There is no doubt we are going through a bad spell with our league form but we have played eight league games and we have three in hand — if we win these we are top six. Because we are in Europe we are behind in games and our league position doesn't look good.

"But I have every confidence in our squad that we can put wins together and push up the league. The pressure is building up with speculation but I can't do anything about that. As the manager I'm accountable but I'm confident we can turn it around."

He has also been backed by some of the players who have put themselves up for criticism. Town's top scorer with seven goals so far this season, Pablo Couñago believes that should be aimed at all of them: "When we win we all take the credit so when we don't do so well it is down to everyone.

"Our league position is not very good and we know we have to work hard to start winning games. Then we have to take that further and win two, three, four in a row and get on a run."
