Morsy: Gutted For the Manager, We Haven't Been Good Enough For Him
Saturday, 4th Dec 2021 20:27

Skipper Sam Morsy says the players haven’t been good enough for manager Paul Cook, who was sacked earlier this evening after nine months in charge.

Morsy captained Cook’s sides at Chesterfield and Portsmouth and was brought to Portman Road from Middlesbrough on deadline day, the last of 19 summer signings, to fulfil the same role.

“Gutted for the manager, great manager and great man, brought us all to the club and we haven’t been good enough for him,” the Egyptian international wrote on Twitter. “We must take responsibility now and move forward.”

Striker James Norwood, who has been training with the U23s and is set to be made available in January, perhaps surprisingly said he was disappointed to see Cook move on.

“Gutted to see the gaffer go,” the frontman wrote. “We have a great relationship on and off the field. He was up against it for a multitude of reasons this season and I genuinely wish him the best in the future.

As I predicted, Cook would be gone before Norwood. Now, let's get Norwood back in the team! #PlayNorwood

OK, I was never a Cook fan. He managed to turn a team on a 3 game winning streak into a bunch of de-motivated losers. Appalling man management, who also treated good pros very badly last eason. He then got HIS team and couldn't get them to play as a coherent unit and probably even tonight doesn't know his best team. Under Cook I started not to care about results after 42 years of supporting the Town all over Europe. Tonight I actually feel quite excited about the future. The structure is in place for the right man to take us forward

No Morsy, you admit you and the players that you captain have not been good enough for the former manager, but it's not just that, more importantly you've not been good enough for the fans, for ITFC as a whole, and for all the hype from Cook about how the team would improve with your influence, you've had no effect on the others and you play like someone looking for a suspension.

The players certainly have got a lot to answer to,they have seriously let their manager down.I wouldn't be the slightest bit bothered if any of them were sold in January, with the exception of Burns,Aluko and Edmundson.

I don't think Evans expected to sell the club that quickly after appointing Cook as manager, Get the feeling that they gave him a go because of his record with Wigan etc.

I liked Cook thought he was a good man and given time would get Town up, however it became obvious that was not going to happen this year because of his failure to see one up front doesn't work at home.

Yesterday it was easy to see Barrows plan, keep the ball as much as possible then when they lost it go man to man to stop us passing through them.
We had no idea how to counter this, shoul have introduced aluko much earlier to run at them in an attempt to get through or free up our forwards when he did we looked much brighter,
Basically point is unless the coach/ manager is tactically aware and Willing to adapt and change quickly you could have messi mbappe and grizman in your team and still struggle.
It's clear that without Liam Richardson he was a fish out of water and nice bloke or not we had to change
Fans blame manager manager blames fans players make all the right noises life goes on.

Cook is a nice guy, probably an ok manager, sadly didn't get Richardson as his coach that's where his problems began, see some are calling for farke, good coach,

Cook was right in his post match interview, 'it's an indication of where we are at the moment' a mid table Division 1 side is exactly what we are and sacking Cook yesterday won't change that overnight. This season has gone now for me and I really feel for Cook, the players are better than their performances and they have let their manager down. It took years for us to get into this mess and it will take years to get us back.

Personally I wouldn't want the job at Ipswich it's become a poisoned chalice. Whoever the next appointment is for God sake give them time, as in a few years. This sack the manager thing is stupid and as I said has probably put the hext on another season.

Just as an aside, I often wonder where we would be if Tony Mowbray had been given the job when Burley was sacked. Very quietly he has done an amazing job at Blackburn who are currently sitting 4th in the Championship. We need a good steady set of hands next and an ex-Ipswich man would be the icing on the cake for me, someone who loves the club.

Cook's previous successes were down to his No.2 who chose to stay at Wigan rather than come to Portman Road. On his own, Cook was not up to the job.

I still wonder if these players just weren't confident in the rigid system they were being asked to play. Maybe the caretaker / new manager will change the system and we will see how the players react. Playing one system all the time made us predictable and it was too easy for other teams to deal with us. We have the players to be flexible and maybe some freedom on the pitch will allow them to show what they can really do. We also need a strong leader and motivator on the pitch which Morsey was supposed to be but we haven't really seen that from him.

I do wonder how much more time PC would have been offered had he been appointed by our new owners as opposed to Evans?
