Wilshere to Town? Bent Tries to Sell Blues Move to Ex-England International
Friday, 11th Feb 2022 14:50

Blues legend Darren Bent has been trying to persuade currently clubless Jack Wilshere to consider a move to Town.

Former England international Wilshere, 30, has been without a side since leaving Bournemouth after a short spell in the summer.

In a lengthy exchange on talkSPORT’s Drive show last night (see below from 2 hours, 17 mins, 32 secs) regarding where Wilshere might go and play for free, Bent asked the former Arsenal and West Ham man whether he’d consider playing for Ipswich in League One.

Wilshere said not that he wanted to “enjoy football, not in League One, that’s not enjoyment for me”.

But Bent was not to be deterred and extolled the virtues of the Blues’ football under Kieran McKenna.

“It’s not about money, it’s about enjoyment. Would I enjoy playing for Ipswich?” Wilshere continued. “Yes, you would,” Bent insisted. “Full house every week.”

Wilshere eventually asked Bent to send him some clips, which the one-time England striker said he would do and that he’d “get McKenna on the phone”, pointing out that Town have won six in eight since the new boss took over.

Appearing to warm to the idea, Wilshere, who coincidentally was at Portman Road earlier in the season as a member of the Arsenal U21s’ coaching staff for the Papa John’s Trophy tie between the sides, added: “It is a big club, in fairness.”

Does our manager or Ashton want him? That is more relevant than an ex-player on a radio programme.

It's funny that he thinks he is better than League 1. His professional footballing days are now probably over. He is now another journey man.

It makes me laugh when professional footballers say they just love playing football and would play for nothing. Rio Ferdinand said that. He was then banned from football for 8 months for missing drug tests and Man Utd stood by him. Then he wouldn't sign a new contract with them until he was offered more money than he was currently earning!!

Just no.

Hasn't even played football for about a year, hilarious he turns his nose up at us.

Feeling is mutual Jack.

To sum up,there's more chance of the scum winning the champions league next season, than Wilshire coming here.

ArnieM Matteo Sereni was also upset because Burley picked him for a Cup match because apparently the top players in Italy never play in Cup matches (according to him) - they use it as a rest day.

ArnieM, Serini wasn't a 'Big' player, he was just an overpriced one. He also didn't disrupt the team, he just wasn't good enough for the premier league. His issues was culture, confidence and ultimately being out of his depth.

Wilshere has played 200 times in the Premier league, he is 3 years younger than Aluko and says he is looking to enjoy his football. If he came in and covered for Morsey and Evans during injures or bans it would be massive for us.

I'm going to disagree with so many of you, scores goals, attacking midfielder through the middle which is why we don't have and knows the game well. What is not to like here as long as he is willing and listens to the gaffer. A pay as you play deal for the rest of the season to prove his fitness and worth why not.

Back in his prime at Arsenal and for England he was some player.

I agree with you totally & marked you up for it. As Fat Boy Tim said, he is younger than Aluko & he is doing ok. A pay as you play deal would be ok & if he was injured he would earn nothing so whats not to like.

He would do a good job in league 1 he has mire natural skill than Celina and has played at top level. No matter what people say on here the manager would decide as he knows football as of today and is knowledgeable in every way about the ins and outs and would make tge decision in facts not assumptions made from reading media outlets. If he comes then it will be a correct decision by the manager as he is a professional with correct info

Wilshire is a class act and he's gone about things in the right way. If we could get him here my only worry would be if the players we have are good enough to be on the same page. As long as it's not a long term investment and more a see how we go thing this would be great. If we are paying huge wages then no. He's not playing or being paid a salary so I'm sure if as it seems he's about enjoying his career at this point we could do a deal. Also great that Bent is still a blue. 💙

He doesn't need to refuse us - we simply do not want a player who is far too injury prone to join us.
Good Midfield player though - however - Thanks but No Thanks Darren Bent.

People are living in cloud cuckoo land if they think he's going to come here on a pay as you play deal he wouldn't earn enough to pay the fuel bills. As Simon Jordan said on Talk Sport he's a busted flush.

He is a player that could have been so much better than his achievements. I saw him play many times at the Emirates stadium and was astonished about how left footed he is, Wiltshire cannot dribble or kick the ball with his right foot. You would think professional footballs playing at the highest level are two footed, but not Jack. His achievements and injury record may be influenced by his lifestyle of drinking and smoking (Norwood take note).
