We've generally looked susceptible defensively over the last 2 games...if you freeze it before their player scores the winner there are just as many Plymouth players in the final third as our own...the same even worse for the Sheff Wed equaliser. Not enough cohesion between our holding midfielders and defense.
I agree with 'North Stander' who writes in the EADT, Ladapo and Jackson are not the answer. They will hardly have defences quaking. Perhaps the team (like so often in the past) have flattered to deceive? The worrying aspect is that the whole league will be aware that Town have a very soft underbelly. They will know if they fall behind that all they have to do is pile on enough pressure and Town will collapse. I think the club is moving in the right direction, but until they sort out these frailties, then for me they are not top 2 material. I would look to involve a sports psychologist. It's worked for some of our greatest Olympians. They just don't seem to believe in themselves to finish the job. The great Town teams of the past (lucky to see them all) have either had prolific individual or team partnerships racking up the goals. None of our current strikers have 20+ goals in them in my view. My prediction is that we will now have a 'wobble' for a few games before settling down again. Top 6 finish for me, unless striking situation sorted out in next transfer window.
I'm afraid that there are a few rose-tinted glasses about the club's past great teams. Robson's teams, 1981 for example, also frequently failed to get the job done when pressurised heavily. There is nothing unusual about this. The current Liverpool and Manchester City have been exposed when physical teams get at them.
Don't panic. This Ipswich team will win this league because the depth of squad will enable them to outlast the others over the length of the season.
fifeblue That didn't escape my attention. That gave him the room to find the goal. It was incredible how the referee did not see such an obvious infringement. We have been really hard done by in a few games that we have not got results, but we still have to defend better.
On Saturday could we please have a decent referee. So many decisions are going against us and the ref at Plymouth was a blatent home banker from the first whistle to the last.
Europablue - thank you for posting your set of highlights. Given the unavailability of the usual set New Zealand is the third Commonwealth country from which the usual set of highlights cannot be viewed.
Can't believe some of the comments about the referee. Morsy should have had a straight red in the first half and it isn't a foul on Chaplin for the equaliser. Chaplin paid no attention to the ball, eyes on the Argyle player trying to win a free kick. The ref read exactly what he was doing..
I too felt Chaplin blocked / played for a free kick. If he simply stays on his feet, even being so darn small, the player doesn't get the ball, time or space to get a shot in on goal. Did anyone else find (my kids as well as i) that it was often difficult to distinguish between the two sides....the kit looked pretty similar! White shorts, the dark tops with white on the sleeves and socks too. Very surprised, for a televised game, that it was allowed (& yes, I know, nobody has a b&w TV any more, but lots watch on devices and TVs smaller than 42").
