McKenna: Returning Burns Fresh and Raring to Go Friday, 30th Sep 2022 14:47 Town boss Kieran McKenna says wing-back Wes Burns has trained all week having returned from his spell away with the Wales squad and is fresh and hungry ahead of Saturday’s second-v-third home game against Portsmouth. Burns, 27, joined up with Wales following the Sheffield Wednesday match but wasn’t involved in either of their Nations League ties. McKenna says the former Fleetwood man has come back to the Blues without injury: “He’s trained with the group all week and he’s ready to go.” Asked whether Burns might have benefited from a weekend without a game having had a summer which was shortened due to June internationals, McKenna added: “He’s certainly come back fresh and hungry. In terms of rest, I still think he had a good summer break, I know he had his internationals but it was a long off-season. “Certainly at the top levels of the game now players are having three weeks in between seasons and still performing again. “All of our players had four or five weeks minimum, some of them longer. I think he’s had a good amount of rest. “Obviously he had a little injury this season, which he missed two games for, but other than that he’s been fit and available and raring to go and he certainly is that for Saturday and it will be good to have him back in the squad.”
