Away Days Tap Takeover Saturday to Raise Funds for Blues Legend Stewart
Tuesday, 8th Nov 2022 13:05

The Away Days Beer Company is staging a tap takeover at The Baths in Civic Drive ahead of Saturday's home game against Cheltenham to to help raise funds for Town legend Marcus Stewart, who recently announced he is suffering with motor neurone disease.

Away Days is a football-themed beer company which was started by Town supporter and TWTD Forum poster Josh Bartlett in 2018.

Over the years, they have prodiced beers in tribute to plenty of Blues legends, including The Beat, Hoppy Robson, Butcher’s Bandage, Brazil’s Best and Boncho, as well as those from other clubs and international football, among them Hursty’s Hat-Trick, SchmeichAle and Ale’ N Shearer.

Josh says the tap takeover is something he has been planning for a little while with the pandemic having thwarted earlier attempts.

“Really excited,” he said. “We’ve been trying to do a bit of a tap takeover for a couple of years now and Covid’s scuppered things a few times.

“I recently linked in with The Baths and mentioned what I was trying to do and they were well up for it.

“And then I linked in with Marcus to get him involved as well to try and help him and the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation out.”

Stewart, 50, announced in September that he is suffering with motor neurone disease and is raising money for the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation, which was started by Stephen Darby, the former Liverpool, Rochdale and Bradford full-back, who was diagnosed with MND in 2018, via a JustGiving page.

“I’d spoken to Marcus on and off over the last year or so, I know he’d enjoyed a couple of beers in the range,” Josh continued. “And just said that this is what I’m doing and if we can try and raise some money for the charity just let me know.

“He was pleased to hear that and we’re excited to roll out a couple of new beers for the event, one of which will be celebrating the legend himself.

“I think we had about 100 fans vote for it on Twitter. There were a number of names which came up. I know Glovely Jubbly was up there but we’ve gone for Marcus Brewit.

“Bradley Lloyd at Glory Days Artwork has helped out to do the pump design, so I’m excited to roll out it, excited to see it on the taps and hopefully it’ll be enjoyed by a lot of the fans next Saturday.

“Doors are opening at 10.30, it’s free entry. We’ve got two specials on and two other keg beers from the core range like Bundeslager.

“It will be running until 3pm, Blue Action are down there, we should have another stall on as well.”
