Penney Enjoying Spell With Motherwell
Sunday, 13th Nov 2022 12:05

On-loan Blues left-back Matt Penney is delighted with how his loan spell in the Scottish Premiership with Motherwell is progressing but wouldn’t be drawn on whether he'll be extending his stay in January.

The 24-year-old moved to Fir Park on a half-season loan in August and has now made 13 starts with the Steelmen ninth in the table.

“I'm delighted with how it has been going. Every boy wants to play football,” the former Sheffield Wednesday man told the Daily Record.

“Getting a run of games is something I've not really had for a while so I'm loving it.

“I'm loving working with the manager [Steven Hammell], his ideas, his philosophy. Results haven't gone our way but I'm enjoying playing week in, week out and long may it continue.

“The fans have been great with me, but I'll need to see what happens. All I can focus on is my football and whatever may be, will be. I'm enjoying it up here.

“VAR and the officials, I need to bite my tongue on some stuff. Very questionable, that's all I can say. But, in general, I'm enjoying it and playing every week is great.”

Quizzed on whether he’ll be considering an extension of his stay when the Scottish Premiership goes into a five-week break for the World Cup, he added: “It doesn't [come into my thinking], no. If I'm honest, I just focus on training, playing on a matchday, doing the best I can do.

“Whatever comes with that in January, comes with it. I'll just keep helping the boys on the pitch.”

Enjoying what you do and get paid for is what it is all about.

Pleased he's doing well and more importantly at a standard that's equally as good as league one if not better. So many of our players are not wanted by league clubs and end up playing in some Swedish pub league so well done to the lad.

Was speaking to a friend of mine who is a regular at Fir Park earlier this week and he was raving about him. Said he's miles better than the two players (both injured) who normally play there.

Think they'd keep him in a heartbeat, but like 99% of Scottish Football, they've not got any cash!
