Ball: I'm Gutted It's Unlikely I'll Play Again This Season
Monday, 14th Nov 2022 16:35

Midfielder Dominic Ball says he’s gutted that he has suffered a ruptured meniscus which will require surgery and means he's unlikely to play for the Blues again this season.

The 27-year-old suffered the injury during the Charlton match but played the FA Cup tie at Bracknell before the severity of the issue was recognised.

Writing on Twitter, Ball said: “After having a scan, I am absolutely gutted to announced that I have ruptured my meniscus.

“I will have to receive surgery and face a lengthy time away from the pitch. It is not something I have faced before but a challenge I know I will over come and come back stronger.

“I am gutted that it is unlikely I will play again this season but I will do my absolute best to get back out there to help the team. Thank you everyone for the support and kind messages.”

Manager Kieran McKenna revealed Ball, who joined Town in the summer after leaving QPR, was set for a long spell out following Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Cheltenham.

“Dominic’s been seeing a specialist so we’re waiting for a report on that. Dominic’s unfortunately got a very severe knee injury that in all likeliness rules him out for the season,” McKenna said.

“He picked it up really innocuously in the Charlton game, didn’t feel quite right in the Bracknell game on Monday night and has seen a specialist this week and has an issue with his meniscus that’s going to need quite a complicated surgery.

“Extremely disappointed for him first and foremost because I think he was primed to be a really big player for us and really improve and kick on in his career, so very disappointing for him but knowing his character he’ll bounce back from it.”

Ball joins a lengthy Town injury list along with Tyreece John-Jules, who has a hamstring problem, which also may require surgery.

Sone Aluko isn't due back from his knee injury until Christmas, while Lee Evans is also out with a knee problem at present.

Better news is that Greg Leigh (compression fracture) and Gassan Ahadme (foot) are expected to be back in action later this month.

This is really odd. I've never heard of a “ ruptured” meniscus , torn maybe but never ruptured. So if he's got a torn cartilage that's usually dealt with via arthroscopy and rehab takes 6/8 weeks . So has he done something else like a ruptured ACL ( plus meniscus tear). These can go together but often with a medial collateral ligament tear.

So I'm a bit confused as to what he's gone and why he's going to be out so long. But I wish him a very speedy recovery.

Whatever the exact problem it's obviously of major consequence and any and all sportsmen amongst us will understand how devastated DB must be , facing months out and a long period of recovery ,which he will hope proves ultimately successful !
Keep up the optimism, do you level best to get fit again and every good wish !

If he got this injury against Charlton why was he allowed to play at Bracknell, which presumably made it worse? How could the physiotherapists/medics allow this to happen?

Again, another season where we are having loads of injuries, haven't looked but wonder how many teams are in the same position as us??

Feel like it's too co-incidental for it to happen season after season??

It might be down to the player not saying he'd got a problem? Maybe he felt it was a twinge and he could get through training / game. Of it might be that the symptoms at that point were actually that bad but playing / tackling was the final straw.?

In many ways it's about his rehab now from whatever the injury really was. As I've said most cartilage injuries can be treated very quickly ( certainly for professional players) and rehab normally takes 3-6 weeks, so where this lengthy time out comes from I'm really not sure. But good luck to him and a very speedy recovery 👍

Disappointing new for him. Hope he makes a quick recovery.

That said we seem to sign players with injury issues. Odd. Even our late summer signings were injured.

Sick parrot. If ud heard mckennas interview on Saturday when he 1st announced this ud know that as he said, that ball picked up an innocuous k kick against charlton, but had felt nothing during the next week. Therefore would be no reason for the medical team to even look at him. Was only during the bracknell match that he felt anything in his knee. So nothing for the medical team to answer.

Best wishes for a successful and speedy recovery Dominic. I'm sure the club will look after you well.

Tobymeadz91. The injuries we are suffering are all down to knocks, or even non contact incidents during matches. There's nothing the medical team can do about this type of injury. Muscle injuries can maybe be prevented, tho not during matches. The type of injuries( majority) we are picking up, cannot. There area few other teams in the same position as us. Were the last couple of seasons too when everyone was slating our medical team .

I wish Dom well in his surgery & recovery. The mounting list of injuries is a great concern

The importance of a quality squad is now becoming so important and we're not even into the winter weather yet. Some may return from injury but others may be ruled out so the January window could become a much needed boost to our promotion push.

Also necessary for Morsy to curb his temper. Saturday's yellow was his second already since his latest suspension and was simply due to revenge for being dispossessed. Having lost 2 out of our 3 most experienced midfielders, losing him to yet another 2 game suspension in the near future could impose a huge impact on our automatic promotion hopes. Very good player but nasty temperament

Orraman - totally agree. He's a good player but a liability and as captain should be setting a better example, especially as we are having injury problems in midfield. He's a walking yellow card every game.

It's a shame about Ball but I don't think we have had an injury crisis, 4/5 injured players is about average. The reason we have quality in depth is for these issues… which teams wouldn't love our active squad? Maybe we add a midfielder in Jan or recall El Miz whose doing really well at orient or Harper.. it's ridiculous over reaction from people on here who need drama.

The treatment for his injury is RICE rest ice compression elevation, hope he makes a full recovery.
