Joe Forecasts Big Changes

Town manager Joe Royle says he expects to see big changes in the way English football is organised over the next few years. Royle was commenting on the Football League clubs' decision last week to introduce a 60% wage cap.

The Blues' boss told the club site: "You can't cap individual player wages, only what a club will spend overall on their playing staff as a percentage of the club's income.

"If they want to give that a go then fair enough but with football the way it is at the moment, I see a natural cure for inflated wages happening anyway.

"There will be a lot of players out of work in the game soon and agents will have to be much more realistic with wages demands. To be fair, the good ones already are.

"I believe changes will happen within the structure of League football in this country as well.

"It's only a personal view but within five years I see us having a situation in England with two professional divisions and two regional, part-time divisions. It makes financial sense.

"We have had 92 League clubs for close on 100 years and we must be the only industry that still has to be pruned and restyled. It might be about to happen in football here."
