Barnett Speaks!
Barnett Speaks!

Town have been too hasty in putting Richard Wright on the transfer list according to the keeper's agent Jonathan Barnett.

The agent, rapidly becoming the man Town fans love to hate, said of the club: "They are impatient and they have panicked. We have got a year to sort it out. What's the rush?"

Town chairman David Sheepshanks responded by saying that the club was reluctant to take the action it has, but added that he would hope most supporters would see through Barnett's tactics: "I suppose that we shouldn't be surprised at Mr Barnett's reaction. It is clearly a tactical ploy on his part and I hope that most, if not all, Ipswich Town supporters will see through this position and his rather extreme remarks".

Sheepshanks added that he hoped Wright would sign for the extra year and the whole matter could be settled amicably. Meanwhile there seem to be no real developments on the interested clubs front.

The link with Russell Latapy mentioned to us by an Edinburgh source last Friday has surfaced again. This time the price quoted for the Trinidad and Tobago international is £2 million.

The 30-year-old was on trial at Town a couple of years back, but failed to impress in reserve matches. He then moved onto Hibs where he was a star in their promotion to the Scottish Premiership in 98/99 and once more last season.

The 5'7" midfielder, who scored 12 times last season, previously played in Portugal with Boavista and Porto before looking to the UK for his football. Whether Town would pay this much for a player they could have had on a free remains to be seen.
