Central defender Wayne Brown has completed his protracted free transfer to Watford. Brown has signed a deal which will keep him at Vicarage Road until June 2005.

Due to Watford's financial problem's a member of the Hornets' board is paying Brown's wages for the first six months of his contract.

Manager Ray Lewington said he was chuffed to make the signing: "I'm really pleased. I watched Wayne when he was on loan at Wimbledon and he impressed me then, and he impressed a lot of people when he was here at Watford.

"He is a very versatile player, and these days to have a left-footed player who can play in a variety of positions is priceless."

Brown made 37 starts and 13 sub appearances for Town after turning professional in 1995, scoring his only goal in the UEFA Cup qualifier against Avenir Beggen earlier this season.
