Jackson: Definitely a Good Feeling
Saturday, 12th Aug 2023 21:20

Striker Kayden Jackson was delighted to come off the bench to seal the Blues’ 2-0 home victory over Stoke City, his first goal in the Championship since January 2019.

Jackson was introduced in the 68th minute and grabbed Town’s second goal - his fourth overall at Championship level - 13 minutes later as the Blues continued their 100 per cent start to the campaign.

The former Accrington man’s most recent second tier goal came in the 3-2 home defeat to Millwall in the 2018/19 relegation campaign.

“It’s definitely a good feeling, back in the Championship,” he told TownTV. “It has been a while so it was great to get that first home win and first goal.

“The boss spoke to me when I was coming on and said there was space in behind and gaps opening up, so to go on and exploit it.

“I think we have the boys to put the balls in dangerous areas out wide and we showed that with Wes [Burns] there after Chappers [Conor Chaplin] got on the half-turn. It was nice to finish the move off.

“We knew we needed the second goal after being close and knocking on the door, but it was nice to seal it with a second.”

Reflecting further, he added: “These games aren’t like some of the ones we saw here last season, when we got a goal up at home and teams found it tough.

“This year is going to be a totally different ball game, which we saw at Sunderland when we were 2-0 up and they threw everything at us.

“We have to be ready for it and, as a bench, we need to be ready to come on and make an impact.

“We work extremely hard in the week to come out on a Saturday and show what we can do as a team and we’re confident going into every game.

“We have a little bit of momentum behind us following promotion and that means it’s a positive place to be. Long may it continue.”

Jackson had praise for the 29,006 fans at Portman Road’s first Championship match for four years.

“We’ve spoken a lot about the crowd and how well they back us, and we watch a lot of clips of other teams and they don’t have the backing we do, week-in, week-out,” he added.

“The fans are there and as long as we can give them something to cheer about then I’m sure they will keep coming in their numbers.”

Always had a bit of a soft spot for Jackson. So pleased he is happy and playing such a important role in the squad. He has been an Ipswich player for some time now and with his speed and experience he is a great player to bring on when the opposition tires.

Same as above have always had a soft spot for Kayden. That turn of pace he processes can be a match winner.

Definitely a good fringe player because he can be a real handful coming on around the 70th minute against tired legs

I have never been a Jackson fan as anyone who knows me will tell you! When he was Brought on with Harness I said to my mate what are we doing, well done to the pair of them shows what I know and why we have such a great young manager

Subs performed much better this week. Harness contributed much more too.

No better presser at the club than Jackson. He forces mistakes and wins a lot of possession. Great defensive qualities from advanced positions. He's been in top form since the start of pre-season with assists, and now he's got an important goal himself. I think he knows that 30 (in Feb) is getting on a bit for a speedster, and ITFC is probably as high a standard as he'll play. Explains perhaps why he appears super-motivated - thinking about his legacy. Long may it continue.

Far play to him. I'm happy when he contributes... why wouldn't I be. It's fortunate that the system we play suits him, which alas means that far more gifted players are omitted. I'm not going to change my opinion of him on a weekly basis just because he scores a goal. He needs to do that 15times a season rather than twice. Even the people that 'claim' to be his greatest fans this morning deep down still doubt him !!

as ive said recently i was never impressed by Jackson ,until latter part of last season, .He has improved and does have a valid place in team / squad. Likewise ive been disappointed in Harness after a very promising start with us, but Saturday he made a statement and hopefully he will now find some decent form . Well done lads. COYB

Never been a Jackson fan . However in current squad position could be a vital player.
After 5 years I would love Jackson to have a fine season.

I have always liked Kayden and Kieran would have got rid if he didn’t pull his weight and train well.

What I liked about his goal is he made the initial run, it was passed outside to Wes and Kayden didn’t sulk because he didn’t get the pass, he got his head up, found space in which to receive the pass and finished nicely.
