U18s at Birmingham
Friday, 18th Aug 2023 10:36

Town’s U18s are in action away against Birmingham City at their Wast Hills training ground on Saturday afternoon (KO midday).

Callum Tongue’s young Blues will be looking to bounce back following last week’s 3-2 home defeat by Crewe Alexandra in their opening Professional Development League Two South game which sees them sitting eighth in the division.

Birmingham won their opening fixture 3-0 away at Cardiff City and as a result top PDL2 North on goal difference.

The club's coverage of the U18s is non-existent. Is there a reason for this? Are they trying to 'protect' the youngsters or something else equally daft? Are TWTD aware of the line-up or scorers from the 3-2 defeat to Crewe last week?
The coverage of the U21s is not much better either. We recently had a U18/U21 double header friendly with Norwich. Norwich had constant updates via Twitter with line-ups, subs & scorers etc. We had nothing.
Maybe I am in the minority when it comes to interest in the youngsters

Last month I attended a work course which was held at the Burleigh Court Hotel which is on the Loughborough University site. The West Ham U-18s were also there. I noticed a few of the young lads wandering about the hotel, their areas full of crisps and fizzy drinks.

I got talking with a waitress in the dining room. She said that the lads never stopped eating and that they had to be careful when they put out cakes for the conference delegates as the lads would scoff them if they had the chance. She said that the Club specified that lots of healthy options should be provided, which they did, but she said, “All they do is eat cake!” She said that she was talking with one of the coaches, who was busy shovelling cake down his throat, and said to him that it wasn’t healthy. He replied that it didn’t matter as his career was over. She pointed out that that wasn’t the point as all the boys would watch and copy him (which they were).

I hope that our U-18s are better led and organised.
