Town keeper Andy Marshall says that it was a lack of experience which caused him to give away the second half penalty which cost the Blues the points at Burnley on Saturday.

Marshall accepted that it was a penalty: "I didn't have too many arguments about the decision," he told the Colchester Evening Gazette.

"It was down to inexperience on my part.I should have known better in terms of coming out and committing myself but I genuinely believed I had a chance of nicking the ball.

"I didn't touch the lad, he dived over me. But if he hadn't dived we would have collided anyway so I couldn't complain too much."

"We should have had the game sewn-up by half-time.

"We had some very clear-cut opportunities and on another day, with the rub of the green, we would have hammered them.

"It was definitely a case of two points dropped. There's no question about that."

Darren Bent was the man responsible for missing many of the chances, however he was happy to have got into the right places: "I was pleased to get in so many scoring positions. On another day I could have got a hat-trick.

"I kept getting behind their back four but I need to work hard on keeping my shots on target."
