Blues Linked With Moore Loan Return
Wednesday, 17th Jan 2024 17:58

Town and Sunderland are reported to have made loan approaches to AFC Bournemouth for ex-Blues striker Kieffer Moore.

The 31-year-old has been mentioned as a potential Town target throughout the transfer window but now, according to The Athletic, the Blues and Black Cats, who appear to have a very similar list of potential recruits, have made loan offers to the Cherries although with no agreement yet reached. Another of his former clubs, Cardiff City, are also believed to be interested.

Town were pursuing Blackburn striker Sam Gallagher, who is understood to be keen on a move to Portman Road, however, Rovers aren’t willing to allow him to leave at present with a fee not agreed and no replacement currently identified.

Moore was previously at Town from a year from January 2017 but made only 11 sub appearances without scoring.

Capped 39 times by Wales, scoring 12 times, Moore had been recruited from then-National League Forest Green Rovers for £25,000 having been on loan at Torquay, also a fifth tier side, prior to his move.

The 6ft 5in tall striker’s career really took off during a loan spell with Rotherham, then in League One, in the first half of 2017/18 - having impressed as a sub for Town against the Millers the previous season - and in the January moved on to Barnsley, also in League One, for £750,000.

Spells in the Championship with Wigan and Cardiff followed, as well as senior Wales caps, before Moore moved on to AFC Bournemouth for a fee which could ultimately rise to £5 million in January 2022 and helped the Cherries to promotion to the Premier League.

However, his opportunities have been limited over the last two seasons, the Torquay-born striker has made only 15 starts and 29 sub appearances for the Dorset side in total, scoring 10 goals, and it’s expected he will move on to a Championship side during this window.

Town are in the market for two new frontmen this window with George Hirst out for most of the rest of the campaign having undergone hamstring surgery and Dane Scarlett having returned to parent club Tottenham.

A good very short term option…..especially as there’s a worldwide striker shortage.

Mmmmm not sure on this one, would only be a short term fix and does he suit our style of play (closing down etc) I see him more as an old fashioned striker?

Yip, that’d do nicely if we can pull it off. If he’s up for a loan move it’d be interesting to see if he fancied a return to Town or opt for Sunderland instead.

We used to call him the lamp post when he was at Portman Road due to the fact he was taller than everyone else and didn’t move much. Possibly a bit unfair as his career improved considerably after he left us. Could do a job for us whilst Hirst is out.

If we were after an out and out striker no, but feels like he could be a perfect fit to replicate the Hirst role. Fingers crossed.

Tells me we have either missed out on our first choice targets or we are trying to move things on by showing interest in Moore.

Not sure about this if it happens to be honest. He’s had a decent career since leaving us but all I can remember is a pretty poor player whenever I saw him. Having said that McKenna obviously thinks he can do something with him so who am I to disagree!

This rumor has been flying around for a while now like the others. So unless something has progressed then this is old news really. However, I believe this could be a good signing. We could still do with another option, but if we had Moore and someone completely different if gives us a few angles to tackle up top.

I think we can use what we have. Put broady or jacko up front, let the other magicians (hutch, sacre, burns, chappers n others) do the rest. Think we underestimate the flexibility in our squad sometimes.

Amazed he's 31...seemed like only yesterday he was starting out, saying that could be a good short term loan, strong links up play and good in the air and a threat on corners which we're not particularly efficient at.

Decent player, but is he match sharp? Hasn’t played a huge amount.

Appreciate we need strikers, but seem to be relying a lot on loans again.

wouldnt mind him, admittedly wasnt great for us but went out on loan and did really well so was gutted we didnt give him another go. maybe we are using this to throw the scent off gallagher. i think blackburn will be calling begging us for the 1 mil by the end of the window!

Probably as good an option as we have, which says a lot about transfer fees strikers attract, and means having to look at loans.

I think he would get games for us as a starter if we don't manage to land a better option later in the window.

But has no skill, is slow, and is very one footed. We couldn't guarantee him minutes.

May be best if it doesn't happen.

Surely Broadhead and Burns know him from the Welsh international squad to gain his interest. Tactically it could work well for pre European Championship set play. He is now a different player who has learnt to use his height. Yes he would make a good substitute for Hirst.

If we put aerial balls into the box then he's a fine option. If we're asking him to fit into our usual style then we may as well put Walton up front. Not many better in the air, but bang average as a hold up man with very limited technique. I'm with others....play Broadhead up top and free up space for Hutchinson or Sarmiento to play in one of the three roles in behind. We do not need an old fashioned number nine.

I think if this story has been posted we might be closer to this signing than we think
First of 2 to come our way
Gallagher being the 2nd

I think Blackburn will succumb to pressure and let Gallagher go especially as he is keen to come here no point in keeping an unhappy player. Wages could be a big stumbling block as we are one of the lowest payers in the championship which makes McKenna's job in the Transfer market very difficult. Players carriers are very short so they are after the best deals they can get and won't come here because we are a happy club near the top of the championship. What ever McKenna does and ninety nine percent of the time i agree with him i shall back him and will not be giving my limited advice on here.

Always amazes me how many people think they know better than McKenna.

Every man and his dog have been linked with Moore. As with Gallagher, I don’t mind if we do and I don’t mind if we don’t.

Yes please - that would be a fantastic loan signing.

Would love to see him play in our system, tall strong and a great aerial threat for corners too.

Whats not to like?

We only need one KM at Ipswich and we already have him (lol). Personally I would like Sinclair from QPR and have run the rule over langstaff at Notts County (a goal machine - but could he step up).

He would certainly give us that physical strength up top and link up play plus he knows where the back of the net is. I just hope we can get in at least x1 CF for the Leicester match and another x1 CF plus x1 RB or CB the end of the window. I’m sure there will be some news soon, but if we do fail to secure anymore signings you feel it’s a huge opportunity missed to challenge for 2nd spot potentially gone. 2014/15 we made that costly error, I’m confident this management won’t do this time around.

Kiefer certainly has unfinished business & a point to prove here...would be a great signing for the rest of the season...he's a lot better player than some give him credit for.
