Town Agents' Fees £1,263,523
Friday, 12th Apr 2024 15:55

Town spent £1,263,523 on agents’ fees between February 1st 2023 and February 1st this year, up on the £849,657 paid out during the previous 12 months.

Twelve teams in the division paid out more than the Blues with Leeds United’s £13,287,748 the highest. In total, Championship teams paid a total of £61,340,767 to intermediaries.

As well as new permanent - among them recruits for the U21s - and loan signings, the £1,263,523 includes the fees relating to new contracts over the course of the year for the likes of Conor Chaplin, Sone Aluko and Massimo Luongo. The full report can be found here.

The FA has been required to publish clubs' spending on intermediaries by FIFA regulations since April 2015.

Interesting to see how the fees table correlates to the league table . With some obvious links from bottom to top.

Although unfortunately this is part of the modern game, I really grudge money spent on agents. Always have done, always will.

When you see how many deals were done in this period, I suppose that isn't to bad. Detest them though.

Two thirds of the payments were made by 5 clubs. Shows what we are up against. Those 5 clubs individual agents payments will be more than several clubs transfer budget.

Also, swap Watford with us and the top 6 highest agent's fees payers would also occupy the top 6 places.

Relegated 21/22 Watford & Norwich
Relegated 20/21 West Brom
I think this clearly indicates the unfair advantage given by the parachute payments and the uphill struggle of all the other teams.

Nothing exemplifies the shocking way football is governed than agents’ fees. In every other industry the lawyer, accountant, adviser etc. is paid by the party they represent but in football it’s the club that pays. Absolutely ridiculous.

Over 60k per transaction, 3 of which were new contracts for existing players. Parasites sucking the life blood out of the game.

Perhaps it's time for players to pay their own representative as MBG has eluded to.

How hard would it be for the governing body to have a rule that the agent’s fee must be paid by the party for whom the agent acts ie. the player. As has been pointed out, it works out to an average of 60k per transaction and for many other clubs it is a lot more than that. It’s an absurd amount of money for what is probably a few telephone calls and meetings. This is a prime example of why some aspects of the game should be overseen by an independent regulator.
