Town Down to Third Following Leeds Win
Monday, 22nd Apr 2024 22:11

Town are down to third in the Championship after Leeds United defeated Middlesbrough 4-3 at the Riverside.

Boro probably deserved more from the game having gone in front through Isaiah Jones on seven before Leeds took the lead via a Crysencio Summerville penalty and Patrick Bamford on 14 and 18.

The Teessiders pulled Leeds back to 2-2 via Emmanuel Latte Lath before a controversial offside Wilfried Gnonto goal put the Whites 3-2 ahead at half-time.

Boro dominated the early stages of the second period but Summerville’s second just after the hour made it 4-2.

Michael Carrick’s men caused some late panic when Latte Lath made it 4-3 with his second of the evening three minutes from the end.

The Whites move a point ahead of the Blues into second but with only two games left to play to Town, leaders Leicester and fourth-placed Southampton’s three.

The Foxes and Saints are in action tomorrow night at the King Power Stadium, while Leeds play again on Friday when they are at QPR.

I think what we’ve all learnt is there is no such thing as an easy run in. Coventry and Hull away is not a prospect I would’ve relished at any time in the season and I think they are two games where we’ll need to be on it if we want to come away with anything. Put simply, we need to win all three games which we’re more than capable of doing, the question is, can we???

Or if we had played Coventry and won we would be top with Leicester with a game in hand to play Tuesday

I've always looked ahead to both Hull and Coventry as the pivotal games if we get automatically promoted, sadly I can't see us winning both (our away form has looked fragile of late and Hull we be desperate for the win) - the Leeds win last night and then a trip to QPR (can't see them slipping up there) could be the end of our hopes. I'll be glad to be proved wrong and I'll eat humble pie.

On a Leeds note, anyone read about the 2 points Sheff Wed points deduction if relegated for £9 Mill of unpaid transfer fees, and Leeds might be in trouble too as they owe £190 Mill from 2022-23 season? Won't be this season though but cant help feeling cheated as it seriously affects it if true.

What a pity 2 points gained from a poor offside decision could have such a bearing on the outcome.

@cheshire_blue - VAR would have ruled that out for sure but wasnt to be. Stevie Wonder would have got that one right for heavens sake !!

We must win all remaining games. Luckily Hull's form is better away

It doesn't matter that Leeds won. We cannot control what other teams do.
We knew even before yesterdays game that if we win all three then we cannot be caught.
Our destiny is in our own hands.
And if that fails, we have another shot via the play-offs. Not many teams can say that.
Come Saturday at 8pm we may well be 4 points off Leeds but we will know what's required of us, hold on to your seats!

heart say's we are still going up but head has doubts im afraid big ask to win last 3 games we have been struggling a bit, All top 4 have had a shaky time recently ,but what will ultimately cost us imo is the period leading up to New Year when we let or big margin get whittled down to nothing. I feel its playoffs now and the nightmare of another clash with Norwich our bogey team . HOPE IM WRONG .

One game at a time folks as KA would say. We don't have to play Hull and Coventry at the same time!!!

If Leicester win at Southampton that’s them done and We have lost the title….draw would be perfect.

If Southampton beat Leeds then second place is Towns…..I can see Town drawing Hull losing to Coventry and winning at Huddersfield.

Win all three town are up

Not going to put my mortgage on the top 4 places as who knows what will happen, I said 5-0 to Town against Maidstone.

Play offs for sure and possible Norwich in the semi final……no matter what…..what a season we have had

As per my previous post which some have obviously disagreed with.....Saints not at the races. Albeit key injured players.
Leicester fans have been incredibly fickle of late but oh how different now.

Southampton played tonight like a side that is resigned for the play-offs and have taken their foot off totally - not good news for us!

Saxonblue purely conjecture at this point, as I said we may have 3 5 or 6 games and I certainly dont know how he's getting on, it was a rhetorical question.

The play off games should we go there are over 2 3 and 4 weeks away, so not so unrealistic at all to ask the question.
