A tabloid newspaper is reporting that Town are set to swoop for former loan keeper Paul Gerrard. The Everton stopper revealed earlier this week that he feels he will have to move away from Goodison Park to get first team football.

The report claims that Joe Royle is set to spend £300,000 on bringing Gerrard to Portman Road. Given the current financial situation this looks unlikely, although a further loan period could well be on the cards.

Earlier this month Royle said that he would consider loans at the end of the transfer window depending on what business had been done during that time.

Gerrard spent a month with Town before Christmas and was set to extend that spell when he picked up a knee injury. He returned to action last week in an Everton reserve game against Manchester United.
