Fisher's England U17s Lose But Through to Quarter-Finals
Thursday, 24th Oct 2024 09:45

Ipswich Town Women’s striker Issy Fisher was in the England U17s side which was beaten 4-0 by North Korea at the U17 Women's World Cup in the Dominican Republic overnight.

Fisher, 17, who joined Town on duel registration terms from Arsenal in the summer, started before being subbed at half-time, winning her 17th cap at U17 level.

Despite the defeat, the Young Lionesses finished second in the group behind North Korea having beaten Kenya 2-0 in their opening game, in which Fisher started, and Mexico 4-2, the Town forward having been an unused sub. England will now face Japan in the quarter-finals.

Fisher, who has scored seven goals for the England U17s, was a member of the side which reached the final of the UEFA U17 Championship in Sweden last summer but lost 4-0 to Spain.

She hit a nine-minute hat-trick in a group stage game against the hosts, her only goals in the tournament.
