PTV In Trouble
PTV In Trouble

Town and other Football League clubs could be hit by another financial blow with official club website provider Premium TV reportedly in trouble.

Premium TV (PTV) has announced a new round of redundancies this week and it is reported that it might even close down.

The company, which took over the Blues' official site only a few weeks ago, is wholly owned by NTL and they have already renegotiated their original contract with Football League clubs.

The original contract was signed at the top of the 'dot-com' boom and was unmanageable in the current climate. The renegotiated deal is linked to the number of page impressions on the sites. The clubs stand to lose around £35 million.

The troubled company has named a trouble-shooter, Rod Henwood, as acting managing director due to its current problems.

Football League officials are worried that as with the ITV Digital deal with Carlton and Granada there is no "shareholder liability" built into the contract should PTV fail.

After the collapse of ITV Digital many Nationwide League clubs saw the PTV cash as an important lifeline, one which may now be taken away.
