Ambrose Fee £1m?
Ambrose Fee £1m?

Reports today indicate that the initial fee Town are set to receive for Darren Ambrose is as low as £1 million. The midfielder is in talks with the Magpies regarding his move to St James' Park.

It is said that Town were after £3 million up front for the highly-rated England U21 but that Sir Bobby Robson's club were only interested in paying £1 million as a basic payment.

With Town in administration the deal would have been out of the hands of David Sheepshanks and his board, administrator Nick Dargan from Deloitte and Touche ultimately in charge.

It is likely that the deal will eventually yield more cash for Town with top-ups based on appearances and England caps, possibly up to the £2.5 million quoted over the weekend.

Newcastle United are a PLC and have to reveal any significant outgoings to the Stock Exchange which they will do once the deal with Ambrose is complete.

It is likely that the £500,000 deal which could take Hermann Hreidarsson to Portsmouth will also have similar 'extras' to the Ambrose transfer, due to Town at a later date.
