Reserves Draw With Spurs

Town's reserves drew 1-1 with Spurs at Stevenage Borough on Monday night. Youngster Stuart Boardley was at first a hero, scoring the Blues' goal, and then a villain, missing a last minute penalty.

As usual it was an inexperienced Town second string, with the addition of Alun Armstrong, on his way back after breaking his wrist.

Armstrong started up front alongside Dean Bowditch who came up against older brother Ben, a Tottenham central defender. The Spurs line-up also included Anthony Gardner, Chris Perry, Alton Thelwell with Kazuyuki Toda.

Town went ahead in the 17th minute, Stuart Boardley running on to a fine Ian Westlake pass and finishing well.

James Pullen did well to deny the home side on a number of occasions but he could do little to stop Rohan Ricketts' penalty two minutes before half-time after Chris Hogg had felled Jamie Slabber.

Armstrong had a goal controversially ruled offside in the second half and with virtually nothing left on the clock Town ought to have won the game. Sub Craig Read was brought down inside the area by Danny Foster but Boardley hit his spot-kick over the bar.

Town: Pullen, Mitchell, Chaffey, Bloomfield, Collins, Hogg, Abidallah (Flack 65), Westlake, Armstrong (Read 73), Bowditch, Boardley. Subs: Peat, Nash, Atay.
