No Wage Cap - Joe
No Wage Cap - Joe

Town manager Joe Royle says he is not looking to follow the example of other First Division clubs and introduce a salary cap. Derby County announced earlier this week that they intend to try to limit players' wages to £5,000-a-week.

The Blues' boss feels this would not work: "You shouldn't have a ceiling for the sake of it but we do need to exercise commonsense."

Royle has already said that he plans to offer new contracts to Richard Naylor, Fabian Wilnis and Jim Magilton in the summer when their current deals are up. How lucrative these contracts will be depends on how Town's financial situation develops but there is little doubt that all three deals will be at a far lower level than those agreed while Town were a Premiership club.
