Makin Writ Issued
Tuesday, 20th May 2003 09:41

Town defender Chris Makin is subject to a writ issued by the Royal Bank of Scotland contrary to claims yesterday. Reports over the weekend said that the bank were taking action over mistakenly paid cash.

The writ has been issued by solicitors Charles Russell and says that around August 19th last year the bank paid £50,000 into a bank account held for the player by Christine Sharp and Co, a solicitors.

The cash was paid by a company called Monaridge Consultants Limited via the Sovereign Trust (Gibraltar). A second payment of the same amount was paid a day later.

The bank have sought repayment of the money - plus the more than £10 a day interest - since September 9th. Makin has admitted liability through a solicitors' letter but is yet to return the cash.

The former Sunderland, Marseille and Oldham man has played down the whole thing, saying only that it is an "ongoing situation" which is close to being resolved.
