Mathie a Manager Thursday, 22nd May 2003 12:24 Legendary Town striker Alex Mathie is taking his first steps into management with Unibond League side Spennymoor United. The Scot has become player-manager at the Moors. Mathie, remembered fondly at Portman Road for his superb first half hat-trick in the 5-0 demolition of a hapless Norwich City side in 1998, was released by York City recently after moving to Bootham Crescent in September 2000. The 34-year-old striker left Portman Road in late 1998 for Dundee United where things didn't go to plan. A loan spell at Preston followed before he moved on to the Minstermen. After leaving York late in 2002/03 he played a few games with Pickering Town in the Northern Counties East League.
