Spurs In For Matt?
Spurs In For Matt?

Weekend tabloid reports claim that Spurs may be ready to match Portsmouth's £750,000 bid for Matt Holland. Earlier in the week the Blues reluctantly accepted Pompey's offer for their captain.

Spurs have long been linked with the midfielder with a London club always thought to be his preferred option should he decide to leave Portman Road.

The report says that Spurs are set to table their bid this week and would like to begin talks with Holland after Ireland's game with Georgia and once he is back from a short family holiday.

Holland and wife Paula have been keen to remain living on the Suffolk-Essex border which they could do if he moved to Spurs. Portsmouth would force them to move to the south coast, however her family is from close-by Bournemouth which may also hold its attractions.

Elsewhere, Southampton boss Gordon Strachan is reported to have turned his attention away from Town pair Darren Bent and Matt Richards. As he has been unable to land Bent he is apparently now looking to a former Portman Road loanee, Forest's Marlon Harewood.
