The embryonic Ipswich Town Independent Supporters Trust (Ipswich Town Ist) has announced that acting vice-chair Peter Morris is stepping down after only a few weeks in the position. Morris, a city banker, became involved in the Trust after a speaking out against the club's current board via a number of media outlets.

Carl Day, the Trust's acting chairman, says that Morris felt his ideas were not consistent with the rest of the organisation: “Peter was frustrated that the direction of the Trust does not reflect his views and aims with regard to the club. Therefore he decided he should not be part of the committee, although he remains a member of the Trust.”

Ipswich Town Ist is holding its launch meeting on July 10th in the Gainsborough Suite at the Ipswich Novotel (start 7.30pm), a gathering open to the public with former Town stars in attendance as well as messages of goodwill from a number of other faces from Portman Road's past.

This will mark the Trust's official birth with the extensive red tape involved in setting up such a group now out of the way. Those supporters who expressed an interest in joining the Trust will receive details of how they can officially sign-up in the next week or so.

Ipswich Town Ist Aims and Objectives

1. To empower and unite the supporters of Ipswich Town Football Club (“Club”) by providing a proactive body with real influence for the benefit of both the Club and the wider community.

2. To enable the views and interests of supporters to have a greater influence in the decision making of Club through acquiring shares and voting rights in the Club or other Company that controls the Club, and through having elected and accountable representation on the board of the Club.

3. To strengthen the bonds between the Club, the supporters and the community and aid communications in matters of interest.

4. To be the conscience of the board and to protect the integrity of the Club.

5. To support and encourage existing and future youth and community initiatives.

6. To encourage the Club to compete at the highest level.
