Notts County Appeal
Notts County Appeal

Notts County, Town's scheduled Carling Cup opponents later this month, are on the verge of disappearing. Fan John Thornhill is appealing for help from supporters of other clubs.

I was four-years-old when I first saw Notts play in 1967. It was 3-1 home to Exeter City in the old Fourth if you are sad enough to ask.

I have seen us play in all divisions on over 100 different grounds. Saturday may well be the last
time. I, like most, have got used to hearing of the latest club to be at death's door and then some miracle occurs and they survive.

However, suddenly you consider Accrington, Aldershot, Newport County and Maidstone and you realise it doesn't always happen. There is no miracle waiting for us, if we cannot provide proof to the Football League that a realistic financial plan is in place by Monday then the oldest Football League club will cease to
exist.

This Tuesday one half of the latest consortium pulled out, it is not hard to judge the likely consequences. What can we do?

£250k will buy us some time but it has to be raised by Monday. A tough task but one we have to believe can be achieved. I hate to ask for money but literally any penny will help (details are below).

Another way is through our online petition asking the league to allow us more time which can be accessed through: http://boards.rivals.net/default.asp?sid=938&p=16&forumid=6472&style=2

class="storytext">We have already been touched by the thoughts and empathy of real fans from all over the country.

And lastly if you haven't got a game come visit us on Saturday (we've got space for about 15,000), wear your colours and show that football people care, that tradition and communities matter and that you like us are not prepared to let the oldest league club die. Many thanks.
