No Revenge from Santos
No Revenge from Santos

Town summer signing Georges Santos says he will not be looking to exact revenge on West Brom's Andy Johnson should the pair be involved in Saturday's game at the Hawthorns.

Santos and Johnson have a fair amount of history behind them, Johnson elbowed Santos in a Sheffield United-West Brom match in March 2001 and broke Santos' eye socket, leading to fears that he might lose sight in one eye. Thankfully he recovered.

The next flashpoint came in the Battle of Bramall Lane a year later which was abandoned due to Sheffield United having too few players remaining on the field.

Santos was red-carded when on as a sub for a late tackle on Johnson. Both players deny they had any intention of injuring the other in the incidents.

This weekend they could meet again but Santos says that the previous clashes will not be on his mind: "Andy Johnson will never be my friend but nor will he be my enemy. What has happened is all history and all part of football.

"These things happen in the game. English football is like that and you just get on with it. I have no problem with Andy Johnson.

"There will be no thoughts of revenge on Saturday but that has never been an issue for me. I have never thought of gaining revenge for what has happened. Never.

"But I will not be changing my game. If I have to make a challenge for the team, I will make that challenge, because we have to win the game. It does not matter who I have to tackle to win the ball."

Santos could well be in the Town back four on Saturday while West Brom manager Gary Megson is yet to decide whether to include Johnson in his side.
