Kuqi Signing Imminent?

Loanee striker Shefki Kuqi could sign for Town permanently in the next few days after discussions opened with Sheffield Wednesday. As TWTD reported earlier in the week, the Finn could join on a free transfer, but with cash payable if the Blues are promoted in May.

Town boss Joe Royle says a deal is not far away: “We are working on a deal, it may be today, it may be tomorrow, I don't know when but we are hoping to do it although there are things to be overcome.

“We are talking to Sheffield Wednesday to find common ground.”

Wednesday are keen to rid themselves of the 27-year-old's reported £6,000-a-week wage as Chris Turner seeks to rebuild his side and improve their currently poor standing in Division Two.

The Owls are also showing interest in Blues' midfielder Matt Bloomfield and are expected to take him on trial when he recovers from an injury which is likely to sideline him for around 10 days.

Bloomfield and defender Chris Hogg were given free transfers yesterday. Former Town full-back Neil Thompson, manager of Boston United, has already enquired regarding the pair.
