Central defender Georges Santos has joined the increasingly lengthy Town injury list after picking up an ankle injury in training. The Frenchman left the training ground on crutches and looks likely to miss the FA Cup match against Sunderland on Saturday.

Boss Joe Royle told the club site that he is concerned about the injury situation: "The injuries are beginning to mount up and certainly Georges is a major doubt for the weekend game.

"He has picked up an ankle injury and had to leave the ground on crutches after treatment.

"We will see how the ankle settles down over the next 48 hours but at this stage, he looks almost certain to miss out on the cup game against Sunderland.

"We need a big turnaround over the next couple of days really in terms of recovery and it's important that Drissa Diallo gets a game under his belt for the reserves on Wednesday, especially with Johnny Mac and Georges both out at the moment."

John McGreal and Chris Bart-Williams are currently on the sidelines with back problems while Jim Magilton has a leg injury.

Town's reserves play Coventry on Wednesday afternoon at the Playford Road Training Centre (KO 1pm).
