Town Launch Another Bid

As expected Town have made an improved offer to Club Brugge for Gert Veheyen. The Blues are rumoured to have bid a figure nearer to the £2 million now thought to be Club Brugge price for the player. George Burley said of the new developments: "We have put in an improved offer and must now wait and see what happens. Brugge don't want to lose Verheyen. He is their captain, a regular international and a good player."

The player himself is also reported to have reiterated his interest in a move to Town, claiming he would only leave Belgium to join an English Premiership side. One source even claims he has already agreed personal terms with us. The Brugge board met last night and are due to meet again before meeting the club's manager on Thursday, possibly to tell him of the player's imminent departure. Meanwhile Verheyen is concentrating on training with the Belgian squad for the match with Latvia.

Town reserves drew 2-2 at Nottingham Forest last night. Many thanks to James Reeve for this report:

Town were lively going forward, but always looked susceptible in defence

with the cumbersome pairing of Manu and Scales accompanied by Justin Miller.

Scrappy game in general, but one or two nice moves and touches - mostly when Abidillah or Logan got involved.

I thought the two youngsters Snowdon and Nicholls combined well in midfield also.

However, was no surprise when Forest took the lead - ball slipped through to

(our old friend) Marlon Harewood who was unmarked, and with a good finish

gave Salmon no chance. Snowdon equalised for Ipswich before half time

after their keeper dropped the ball under pressure from Logan.

Into the second half and the pattern of the game continued; fairly end to end

but final passes going astray after some nice touches. Abidillah continued

to pick out decent balls, whilst Snowdon continued to impress in his "Matty

Holland" style role.

Town took the lead after another cock-up in the Forest defence following a good move involving Snowdon and Logan. Midgley was free to poke the ball home from the edge of the box. However, our defence conspired to throw away this advantage by leaving Harewood unmarked (again!) to tap in a simple goal. Mogga immediately brought himself on for Miller (who'd received a knock) and tightened up the back five. No further real chances at either end.

Bit concerned now about selling Wayne Brown, as on last night's performance

central defensive cover seems thin on the ground - excluding Mogga! Although Croft didn't have a bad game.

Team: Salmon, Subrin (Artun), Croft, Miller (Mowbray), Scales, Thetis, Snowdon, Nicholls, Abidillah, Logan, Midgely.
