Town Pass Robins Test

Town continued their excellent start to the season with a stunning 4-1 victory away at Swindon. This brings Town's goal tally at the County Ground to a whopping sixteen in the last four visits.

Town started much as they had left off in April when they destroyed the Wiltshire lot 6-0 and it seemed only a matter of time before we scored. Naturally enough a goal turned up, although to general astonishment it was to Swindon and Guiliano Grazioli after some sluggish defensive work from John McGreal and Mark Venus. Town then let the Swindon get into the game to a greater degree than they had previosly, but gradually began to dominate the game again as the half wore on and it came as no surprise when David Johnson equalised on the stroke of half-time. The on fire number nine was left free just inside the penalty box and was put through by the similarly aflame Richard Naylor.

The second half was all Town and after 55 minutes Naylor scored probably his best ever goal for Town. A Clapham cross was flicked on by Mickey Stockwell before Bam-Bam trapped the ball and then volleyed home on the turn. The all action striker was on target once again after 68 minutes when he won the ball from Swindon defender Williams who was foolishly poncing about with the ball just outside his own area. It was good work from Naylor who really has started the season like a man possessed.

Town added a fourth on 73 when Fabian Wilnis was put away down the right and had his shot saved by Frank Talia in the Swindon goal only for David Johnson to tap in from half a yard. Another excellent performance from Town sending them to the top of the table for the first time since we were relegated in 1995. With two strikers finding the net on a regular basis things look to be going very well indeed.

Illness victim James Scowcroft and the back from injury Jim Magilton may find it hard to win a place for next week's game with Bolton. About time we beat them isn't it?

R Wright 7 Little to do again, but could have done more on goal?

Wilnis 7 Usual good performance from Fab

Thetis 7 Difficult afternoon containing Onuora

McGreal 6 Possibly at fault on goal?

Venus 6 As above (Brown 89)

Clapham 8 Another good performance

J Wright 7 Quiet and effective once more

Stockwell 8 Good running

Holland 7 Solid once again

Johnson 9 Sharp as he's ever been (Axeldal 83)

Naylor 9 Playing out of his skin at the moment

Unused subs: Salmon, Friars, Midgley
