Bramble Has Nightmare Game

George Burley last night watched Titus Bramble play in the England U21 match against Finland.

Titus, struggling with a heavy cold, had to come off at half-time after a poor performance, the player himself confessing: “I felt terrible and didn’t play very well. I had a nightmare before being brought off, and I am not happy with myself at all."

However, the Town defender did provide Dunne with an assist to level the match at 1-1, and Smith then put the England U21s 2-1 up before the hot-headed Leeds player was sent off.

The Finns capitalised by scoring before the 10 men could fully reorganise, and the match ended at 2-2. Thankfully for Town, Titus is expected to play against West Ham at Portman Road on Saturday.

Sean Friars scored in the 11th minute to start the Irish U21 off on an impressive 5-2 win in Iceland even though Wayne Carlisle was sent off for handball.

Friars, the captain of the U21s, adds to the impressive list of Town players feauring for their country over the weekend, along with Titus Bramble and Matt Holland.

Matt is unlikely to improve his goalscoring tally tonight, as despite scoring in the last match against Portugal, he will take his place on the bench. Mick McCarthy keeps with the starting line-up for the third consecutive game, after impressive results against the Portuguese and Dutch.

Jim Magilton and Hermann Hreidarson line-up against each other tonight in Iceland. Jim has been taunting our Icelandic defender that his National side is no better than a pub team but Hermann is taking it in his stride: “Jim likes to have a good laugh and a good joke, but whoever wins I’m sure we will have a drink together afterwards."

Amir Karic will play for Slovenia against Switzerland this evening also.
