A Town fan has been been arrested at Luton Airport trying to board a plane to the European Championships in Portugal. Stuart Hunter from Woodbridge was stopped from leaving the country and handed a two-year banning order.

Hunter, detained on Thursday morning trying to board a flight to Madrid, was on a police list of fans who should be stopped from attending Euro 2004.

The 22-year-old has a conviction for being drunk at a football match but said in Luton Magistrates' Court that he was not travelling to Portugal in order to create trouble: "I had no intention of going to Portugal to cause any violence or disorder."

The banning order means he will not be allowed to travel to any game in England and Wales, and when England are abroad will have to report to his local police station to hand over his passport.

Tim North, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said in court that Hunter had a conviction for being drunk and disorderly at Town game.

North said Hunter had not been involved in football violence, but characterised him as someone who "doesn't quietly enjoy a game".
