A tabloid newspaper is linking former Town loanee Alan Mahon with a return to Portman Road. Mahon enjoyed a highly successful spell with the Blues last season but ultimately signed permanently at Wigan Athletic.

Mahon joined Town on loan from Blackburn in September around the same time as Chris Bart-Williams and Shefki Kuqi, Marcus Bent's departure to Leicester on a year's loan funding the deals.

The Irish international made eight starts and four appearances as sub - scoring one goal - in a three-month spell curtained first by injury, then by a recall to Ewood Park.

In February, the ex-Tranmere and Sporting Lisbon winger moved to the JJB Stadium for an undisclosed fee thought eventually to be worth £750,000 to Blackburn depending on appearances.

Mahon was less successful in his 14 appearances for the Latics, although it seems unlikely that they would allow him to leave on a free transfer - the only way Town would be able to afford to sign him.
