Striker Pablo Couñago says he wants to remain with the Blues even after the end of his current contract. Town's highest paid player had a poor 2003/04 but is determined to shoot the club into the Premiership this season.

The former Celta Vigo man said: "I am happy and plan to stay and score goals for the club. I have every incentive to score goals as if Ipswich manage to regain a Premiership place then I can hopefully stay at Portman Road after my current contract expires next summer.

"If we remain where we are then it will be difficult to arrange another contract with the club."

Couñago, who joined the Blues in the summer of 2001 on a Bosman, is the last player at Portman Road on a big Premiership contract, thought to be approaching the £20,000-a-week mark.
