Dyer Windfall?
Dyer Windfall?
Monday, 16th Aug 2004 21:51

Town's moneymen will be keeping a close eye on developments at Newcastle United where former Blue Kieron Dyer is reportedly about to be shown the door. If Dyer moves a sell-on clause in his 1999 deal could lead to a much needed windfall at Portman Road.

The midfielder is apparently set to be sold after reports claimed he refused to play on the right-wing at Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Newcastle say the incident did not take place, a spokesman denying the story: "There's no truth in it at all, it's like Sir Bobby said after the match - it's utter rubbish."

However, the local Newcastle paper reported this afternoon that the Magpies want £8 million for the England international, with Aston Villa and Manchester United claimed to be possible destinations.

When Dyer joined Newcastle from the Blues in the summer of 1999 for £6.5 million, a sell-on clause was included as part of the deal.

The club has never disclosed how much of any potential deal they might be entitled, but if other similar clauses are anything to go by then Town could be looking at receiving 10% of any profit Newcastle make on their investment.
