The absence of injured Town central defender Jason De Vos was clearly felt by Canada last night, Frank Yallop's side going down 2-0 to Guatemala in their opening World Cup semi-final group game in Vancouver.

Carlos Ruiz scored both goals for the Central Americans, one in each half.

Yallop was unsurprisingly unhappy: "It's a very disappointing night. It's only one game out of six and we know we now have a lot to do. They were a better team than us on the night."

Town target Jaime Peters came on for his senior international debut in the 59th minute. The 17-year-old was recently on trial with the Blues and impressed manager Joe Royle who is keen to add him to the ranks of the Academy.

Peters has also had trials with Millwall and Derby and is expected to spend a spell with Manchester United.
