Stand-in Town skipper Jason De Vos is angry with Canada's medical staff after erroneous advice caused him to miss last week's World Cup qualifier with Guatemala. De Vos was told that he had a hairline fracture of his fibula and missed the 2-0 home defeat to the Central Americans.

De Vos said: "I'm very annoyed with the medical staff at the hospital in Canada. After the initial x-ray came back clear they said a further scan showed a fracture in the fibula. I specifically asked that they were sure it was not just bruising, but they were adamant.

"I came back and found there is no fracture so I could have played for my country. Instead we lost and that could be a big blow to our chance of qualifying for the World Cup."

De Vos played for Town on Saturday against Cardiff and felt no ill effects. However, manager Joe Royle has indicated he will leave the former Wigan man out of his side facing Brentford in the Carling Cup on Tuesday night.
