Town manager Joe Royle was disappointed with his frontmen after Tuesday night's 2-0 victory over Brentford in the Carling Cup. Goals from Tommy Miller and Ian Westlake took the Blues into round two.

Royle said: "We had a lot of changes - too many changes to expect us to carry on playing the way we were on Saturday.

"I was wondering where a goal was going to come from. They had two or three chances but apart from Lewis Price's save at the end and a bit of aerial warfare we did fine.

"I was disappointed with our front players. We did not get hold of the ball. We will have to play a lot better at Rotherham on Saturday."

Royle was more impressed with his youngsters, Scott Barron on his senior debut, Scott Mitchell making his first senior start and Lewis Price making his first appearance for the Blues at Portman Road.

Ultimately Royle was happy just to be in the hat for the next round: "We are through and have kept a clean sheet, so mission accomplished."

The Town manager will also have been pleased that skipper Jim Magilton came through 60 minutes unscathed.

Brentford boss Martin Allen was pleased with his side's display: "It was a good performance from our team. I made a lot of changes to rest some people and give some people an opportunity to play who have not been in the first team. They all worked very hard for each other and for the football club.

"They tried to get it down and pass it. Saturday's performance was poor but I think the faith the Brentford fans have shown in us was reflected in the number of supporters we had here.

"I know the Ipswich team were weakened but they were close to going into the Premiership last season and we were close to going into that other league, whatever it's called.

"We have come a long way in a short space of time. We have conceded six goals in our last two away games which is bitterly disappointing considering the amount of work we do.

"But we have not done any coaching for this game and just asked them to go out and enjoy themselves."
