Bent Bid Turned Down
Bent Bid Turned Down
Friday, 27th Aug 2004 00:45

Town are reported to have turned down a bid of £3 million from Charlton for striker Darren Bent. Addicks boss Alan Curbishley is clearly a fan of the Blues having previously signed Matt Holland and Hermann Hreidarsson from Town.

Bent has made a good start to the season, netting twice for Town and once for the England U21s in his first six games.

Previously, Newcastle and Southampton have been strongly linked with the frontman who made his senior debut in the 2001 UEFA Cup second round second leg match in Helsingborg.

Since then, the 20-year-old has continued to make good progress and has scored 38 goals for Town in 71 starts plus 25 appearances as substitute.

His England U21 career has consisted almost entirely of appearances from the bench but he has still managed three goals from six games.

Charlton have been looking to add a striker to their squad before the transfer window closes on Tuesday, with Cardiff's Robert Earnshaw also linked.

Former Town trialist Jonatan Johansson is expected to leave Charlton for Norwich once Alan Curbishley has landed his additional striker.
