Westy Was Sub Keeper
Westy Was Sub Keeper

Town coach Willie Donachie has revealed that Ian Westlake would have taken over in goal at Watford on Saturday had Lewis Price gone off injured. The Blues were without a sub keeper with Kelvin Davis out with a back problem and Shane Supple picking up a suspected broken toe.

Earlier reports had claimed that Richard Naylor would have become Town's emergency goal-guard, however, Donachie told the club site that a number of players fancied a more hands-on role: "Kevin Horlock is always throwing himself around in goal during training and he would have been suitable for the job because he's totally mad.

"Fabian also said he would give it a go but Westy would have not got the nod if Lewis had been injured.

"He's used to diving around from his water polo days and has been in goal a few times in training."

In the past a number of outfield players have taken their place between the sticks for the Blues. Allan Hunter and Russell Osman both did stints on a couple of occasions while more recently Matt Holland took over from Richard Wright for a brief period in a 5-1 win against Oxford in 1998 while the keeper had stitches.

Striker Neil Gregory had previously deputised for Wright and Craig Forrest in defeats against Huddersfield and Charlton.
