DJ and Portman Road regular John Peel has died at the age of 65 while on holiday in Peru. The Radio One and Four presenter was in the resort of Cuzco when he suffered a heart attack.

Peel was a lifelong supporter of Liverpool but as a long-term resident of Suffolk also followed Town, the club supported by his wife Sheila.

Radio One controller Andy Parfitt paid tribute to Peel who worked for the station from 1967 until his death: "John Peel was a broadcasting legend. I am deeply saddened by his death as are all who work at Radio one.

"John's influence has towered over the development of popular music for nearly four decades. He will be hugely missed."
