Hermann Called Up Monday, 6th Nov 2000 10:58 Town centre-half Hermann Hreidarsson has been called up for the Iceland squad their friendly against Poland on 15th November. He joins Matt Holland who was called up by Ireland last week. We've been sent a bit more information on the man in line to be Town's new European Scout Simon Hunt (see previous stories). It seems our man, who we're told will be announced this week, was a bit of a hero to the dragon worshipping folk. Wrexham fan David Jones told us: "Simon worked his way through the junior ranks at Wrexham after signing as an apprentice, finally signing as a full professional in August 1981. A month later he made his league debut in a 1-0 2nd Division defeat at Leicester City, coming on as substitute. He experienced two successive relegations with the club due mostly to crippling debts. Despite shining as one of Wrexham's best players in a season that culminated in Wrexham qualifying for Europe by default (losing to Shrewsbury Town in the Welsh Cup final). Simon shocked the club by announcing his decision to move to Sweden at the end of the 1983/84 season." David continues: "He and his Swedish wife settled there and he took up playing football again for 2nd Division side IF Elfsborg, later switching to 1st Division side IK Braga." David also sent us a summary of Simon's Wrexham career: 1981/82 15/4 Apps 2 Goals 1982/83 45 Apps 7 Goals 1983/84 42/2 Apps 9 Goals Total 102/6 Apps 18 Goals More Wrexham information from: http://www.red-passion.com class="storytext"> Photo: Action Images
