Oxford After Jim?
Oxford After Jim?

Oxford United are reported to be interested in Town skipper Jim Magilton taking over as manager at the Kassam Stadium. Magilton says he has heard the reports but has had no contact with his former club.

The ex-Northern Ireland international told the club site: "I'm in the dark about Oxford really. I've heard little bits and pieces linking me with a player-manager role there but we'll have to wait and see whether there's anything in it.

"Oxford is a club that is very close to my heart. I had four good years at the Manor and I've still got a lot of friends there, so we will have to see what happens.

"If an offer came along I'd have to think long and hard about it, but there's no point in speculating at this stage.

"I'm fully committed to the cause at Ipswich and everyone knows what I think about this club. But there are so many people in football who are out of work that when an opportunity comes along you have to give it serious thought."

A number of other names have been mentioned as contenders for the Oxford job, amongst them Port Vale's Martin Foyle, Tranmere assistant boss Richard Hill, ex-Sheffield Wednesday bosses Danny Wilson and Chris Turner, and former Walsall manager Ray Graydon.

Magilton, 35, is keen to get into management when he stops playing but has said he isn't ready to hang up his boots quite yet.
