Town have announced that there will be a minute's silence ahead of Tuesday's game against Wigan Athletic in memory of their former manager Harry McNally. McNally, who managed the Latics between 1983 and 85 and held other positions at the club, died over the weekend.

Former Town striker David Lowe played under McNally and paid tribute to the manager who handed him his first league start: "I will always be grateful to Harry as he was my first manager and it was under him that I learned the ropes in football.

"He had a fiery temper at times but he also enjoyed a laugh and a joke and got involved in the general banter that went on. He was a real character and straight out of the old school in terms of his beliefs and the way he enjoyed his football.

"Although we didn't enjoy that much success under his management when he was actually in charge, the club certainly reaped the benefits of his hard work as quite a few players he helped bring through went on to do well for the club and then in the game in general.

"Myself, Steve Walsh and Mike Newell were just three players who came through when he was in charge of the reserve team and then of course he brought in the likes of the present Gaffer [Paul Jewell] when he was manager."

McNally's funeral is on Tuesday morning, with Lowe, Jewell and another former player currently involved with the Wigan management, physio Alex Cribley, unable to attend.
