Axeldal to Stay

Town have announced that Swedish striker Jonas Axeldal is to be offered a contract until the end of the season. The former Malmo and Foggia man had been on a month's deal after initially impressing on the club's pre-season tour of Sweden. He has already made several first team appearances as sub and started the reserve game with Bournemouth last Wednesday. It seems likely then that the speculation which in the last week alone has led Town to be linked with Brighton's Gary Hart, Cambridge's Martin Butler and Bristol Rovers' Jason Roberts will now stop. Ready yourself for a rash of links with left wingers instead, for that is clearly now the priority.

Town have a couple of injury worries after Saturday, most significantly Richard Wright who injured his had making a save in the second half of Saturday's game. Wright hasn't missed a Town game since February 1997, amassing 132 consecutive games up to Saturday. Mark Venus also suffered a knock. Both players may be rested for Tuesday's game with Brentford given Town's two goal superiority over the Londoners. Mike Salmon and Wayne Brown are the two players likely to deputise.
