Assistant boss Willie Donachie admitted Town were not at their best and that the 0-0 draw with Gillingham was probably a fair result.

Donachie said: "We knew it would be tough and it just wasn't our day today. We didn't create anything or support our front two enough.

"Gillingham are a very tough side to play against and created the better chances. If they had a natural goalscorer, we would have been in trouble today.

"It just wouldn't happen for us today, but if we are consistent in winning at home and picking up something away, then we feel we will be in with a chance of promotion come the end of the season."

Gills' boss Stan Ternent felt fear was a factor in his side failing to claim three points: "I have told them not to be frightened to win. Someone has to do it and it might as well be us. Having said that, I am happy with the point today as Ipswich are a very good side.

"The players have worked really hard since I've come here and they have channelled a belief in the right direction. They are showing a will and desire and deserve to be out of the bottom three.

"I've had promotion in my time as a manager and never relegation, and I don't intend to start now.

"Keeping Burnley up in this division last year was a big achievement, but I think keeping Gills up could emulate it."
